Frequently Asked questions

Block paving, concrete and tarmac driveways can be laid all year round, depending on the weather conditions. Ideally, you wouldn’t install paving in temperatures above 30 degrees or below -8 degrees, but providing the conditions are dry and suitable, any time of year is feasible.

We’d recommend leaving it for a few weeks before using any cleaning or maintenance products.  After this, you can use whatever maintenance product you like, providing it is suitable for the surface in question.

Once the blocks have been installed you will be able to walk carefully over the paving. Only once the blocks have been sanded and compacted will driving be acceptable. The times will vary for different paving types, such as concrete and tarmac, so it’s best to speak to the contractor about times for different surfaces.

You won’t usually require planning permissions for a patio or a driveway, although we’d probably recommend checking with your landlord if you are renting a property. Every council will have different rules, so it’s also worth taking the time to check with them too.

We won’t dig any further than we need to, only to the depth required so that we can lay your paving. With block paving, the depth of digging is the depth of the block and the sand combined, which will usually be around 25-30cm.
